Biomag 2018 – ISACM Clinical MEG Primer

In an effort to increase educational opportunities for medical professionals with an interest in basic MEG clinical methods and applications, we plan to provide didactic sessions on clinical MEG at BIOMAG 2018. This program is designed for Radiologists, Neurologists, Neurosurgeons and Psychiatrists who interpret or rely on magnetoencephalography (MEG), electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies for the evaluation of perceptual and cognitive brain processes in addition to benefiting physicians who manage patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders. Researchers, physicists and technologists working with MEG/EEG/MRI will also find the program beneficial.

We are planning to schedule 4 morning sessions (1 hr. each) to introduce Clinical MEG methods and applications to medical professionals (fellows, trainees and novice users). This CME accredited program will focus on the most common clinical MEG applications across pediatric and adult medical settings.

Educational Objectives:

Attendees should at the completion of this course, be able to:

  • Discuss the standards of practice for clinical MEG examinations
  • Explain the basic concepts, indications and contraindications of MEG
  • Differentiate normal and abnormal MEG and EEG spike data
  • Evaluate the effects of trauma and congenital anomalies on MEG data
  • Compare MEG and EEG data with other imaging modalities
  • Describe the advantages and pitfalls of MEG
